What I help with

Health coverage, and nothing else.

Individuals & families

Private plans bought straight from the carrier, with broader networks and no waiting for open enrollment. We start with two things: what your household brings in, and what your health history looks like. Between them they decide whether a private plan or the marketplace is the better fit, and I'll walk you through both before you choose.

Self-employed & 1099

Freelancers, contractors, realtors, consultants. Coverage that doesn't assume you've got an HR department, and doesn't punish you for an income that moves around.

Small business

Teams under fifty. Group plans, or helping each person find their own individual coverage. Sometimes that's the cheaper route and I'll say so, even though it's more work for me.

Dental, vision & supplemental

Dental, vision, accident and critical illness. Cheap, unglamorous, and the first thing people wish they'd bought.

Two routes

Two different products, not two versions of the same one.

Health coverage comes in two forms. Private plans are bought straight from a carrier and are medically underwritten, meaning your health history is part of the decision. ACA plans are bought through the marketplace and are guaranteed issue, meaning it isn't. Which one fits comes down to your income, your health history, and when you need coverage to start.

Private, off-exchange

Bought straight from the carrier, any month of the year, and often at a lower premium. These are medically underwritten: the carrier reviews your health history and can decline you or exclude a condition you already have. They are not ACA-qualifying plans, and they don't have to cover everything an ACA plan covers. No subsidy applies.

Marketplace, on-exchange

Bought through healthcare.gov directly, or through a licensed marketplace broker. No health questions, no exclusions for anything pre-existing, and the essential health benefits are covered by law. It's also the only route where a subsidy lowers your premium. You can only enroll during open enrollment or after a qualifying life event.

If you're managing an ongoing condition, an ACA plan is often the better answer. If that's where you belong, we'll talk about it. The point is that you end up in the right plan.

About

Tiffany Gilani

I came to insurance from sales, startups and marketing, which is an odd route and turned out to be the useful one. I spent years watching companies take something simple and make it sound complicated. Health insurance is the worst offender I've found.

Since then I've helped more than 1,300 families get covered. I'm Persian American, and I grew up around people who worked for themselves, which is probably why so many of my clients are self-employed or running something small. They're the ones this system is hardest on.

What I won't do is put you in a plan you don't need. If what you already have is working, I'll tell you to keep it. There's no version of this where I make money off you being confused.

Outside of work it's mostly me and my dog, who has never once asked me about a deductible.
